ASTM material standards are developed by the American Society for testing and materials. ASTM material standards can include chemical, mechanical, physical, and electrical properties of materials. These standards include not only a description of the test methods to be performed on building materials, but also a description of the dimensions and shapes to be used for these materials. Prior to use in buildings, local laws may require building materials, such as concrete, to meet ASTM standards. It is widely used in ASTM A53 and ASTM A106.

ASME is an American Society of mechanical engineers standard. The ASME material code is based on Specifications issued by ASTM, AWS and other recognized national and international standards. ASME standards are required by law when building infrastructure such as bridges, power plant pipelines and boilers. It is widely used in ASME B16.5.

ASTM is responsible for developing and re establishing standards for all old and new materials. Because it's about testing and materials.


ASME will selectively absorb and filter these standards for the relevant work used, and modify them for improvement.
