Black seamless steel pipe is made of non-galvanized seamless steel pipe. Its name comes from the scaly dark iron oxide coating on its surface. It is used in applications where galvanized steel is not required.
Seamless black steel pipes are designed to transport propane or natural gas to residential and commercial buildings. In this way, a pipeline without joints can be manufactured, thus making it a better pipeline for conveying gas. The strength of black seamless steel pipe makes it very suitable for transporting water and natural gas in rural and urban areas, as well as protecting wires and conduits for transporting high-pressure steam and air. Oil and petroleum industries use black steel pipes to transport large quantities of oil to remote areas. This is beneficial because the black steel pipe hardly needs to be maintained. Other uses of black steel pipe include gas distribution inside and outside houses, wells and sewage treatment systems. Black steel pipes have never been used to transport drinking water.
The main material of Seamless black steel pipe is ASTM A53.
